Description
Born from the same creative seed, this artwork and its sister song, “Bloekompraatjies”, are a dual tribute to an enduring love. Both pieces were inspired by a poem by Bert Gericke, written after the passing of Nicolette, his wife and love of 66 years. In it, Bert writes that one lifetime was not enough; he wishes for them to return as seeds in the Karoo soil, growing into two trees, their roots intertwined, their leaves whispering in soft conversation.
With Bert’s permission, Lize adapted the poem into a song in 2024, recording it in 2025 and releasing it in May 2026. Drawn to create a visual companion to the music, she crafted this piece using acrylic ink and a micro-detail brush, capturing the quiet intimacy of the two entangled Bloekombome (Eucalyptus trees).
